Even after taking a hit during the financial crisis, Shanghai looks pretty good coming in at number six.In Shanghai, it’s difficult to go a day without talking about skyrocketing or , but good to know the city is still plugging along -- or at least “The Economist” says we are,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The magazine recently covered a report charting the world's best-performing city, the distinction showing, they say, which urban centers are leading growth in the world economy.
Istanbul, with income growth of 5.5 percent and employment growth of 7.3 percent over the past year, led the rankings.
The report ranked the cities according to “growth in gross value added per person (a proxy for income) and employment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].”
Shanghai came in at a sold sixth place out of the 150 cities scored, down from its third spot in 2007 due, in part, to how it fared in the economic crisis. But sixth place is none too shabby,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Especially since Beijing slipped from first to eight, also behind Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

The 150 cities ranked represented just 12 percent of the world's population but accounted for 46 percent of the world's GDP in 2007, says the report. That’s in contrast to Chinese statistics where, at the end of 2009 of the population lived in urban areas, with ever-increasing urban migration.
