Random Thoughts: The Chase, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and More
Random thoughts while trying to convince myself someone other than Jimmie Johnson is going to win the Sprint Cup.
OK, gamblers, I am going to handicap this year's Chase field of Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Jeff Burton,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer.
Jimmie Johnson. That's it.
All the pundits are predicting big things for the Joe Gibbs Racing duo of Kyle Busch and Hamlin, who is leading at the outset of the Chase. They are wrong. It's all Johnson's to win. Again. So y'all wake me up in February when Daytona rolls around.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] gave up his Heisman this week for all the agent dealings that went on while he was at the University of Southern California. It's the first time in the 75-year history of the award that a player has forfeited the trophy.
I think any sportswriter out there who is acting all outraged over the whole flap over USC and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]needs to pull his or her head out of the sand and get a firm grip on reality. Big time programs make millions each year on the backs of these young men. The hypocrisy is more than I can bear.
Despite the fact that his offense is absolutely terrible, I want to party with Rex Ryan. He's my foul-mouthed hero; I don't care what Tony Dungy thinks.
Really, no one is beating Jimmie Johnson. I know I sound like a bit of a homer here. I want to say that it is going to be someone else. But it's not.
There is now a Miss Coors Light that will be coming to a race track near you. No, seriously. I'm not making this up. Couldn't if I wanted to.
Miss Coors Light will be there at the track presenting the pole winner at each race with that little flag that they get for winning the pole starting this week at Loudon. Her name is Rachel Rupert.
Miss Coors Light? Seriously? You couldn't have done any better than that, people?
Miss Winston - now that just rolls off the tongue. Miss Budweiser - that's good stuff. But Miss Coors Light? Too much marketing. Way too much marketing.
Wait, she's cute. I'll allow it. But it would have been much better if she would have been called Miss Frost Brewed or Miss Tap the Rockies.
Front Row Motorsports is suing the company that makes Extenze male enhancement tablets and driver Kevin Conway for breach of contract.
The race team is suing Biotab Nutraceuticals for non-payment of part of a $5.4 million sponsorship deal for the 2010 Sprint Cup season.
It's a shame when they put all this effort into these things and they end before they should.
Night Ranger played a concert at Richmond before last week's race. Was Winger not available? Nelson must have been booked.
I closed my eyes and drifted back to 1989. I am still having nightmares from the experience.
