Taking Dawn are determined to bring rock back to Vegas, as Babbitt continues to explain; "Las Vegas is represented by The Killers and Panic At The Disco. There is no real rock 'face' here anymore. Slaughter was the last rock band, so I feel like we have a lot to carry on that end, as a rock band, to bring attention to the scene."
Although the album spreads across many categories and has something for everyone, one thing Time To Burn is consistent of is energy. With a band collectively hitting the good side of 25 years old, Taking Dawn have an impressively mature sound throughout the album. This may be good support to dropping the young, fashion metal that the younger generation have been tainted with.
Keen to create their own sound and taking inspiration from Rock of all walks of life covering Bon Jovi, Skid Row and any band from the 80's era [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Taking Dawn put an intense modern twist on it that enables them to call it their own. The title track from the album, blasts in with full on speed [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], intensity and catchy hooks, keeping enough of a mainstream, "pop rock" vibe putting them into the same category as multi platinum artists and label mates, Nickleback.
Inspiration, Technical Guitar Solos and the 80’s
Choosing to cover Fleetwood Mac's The Chain only adds to this mature sound. Babbitt explains why:
Hailing from Las Vegas speaks volumes from the moment you listen to the opening track on their debut album, Time To Burn, which will be released 3rd April 2010. A true Rock n Roll, Glam Rock album with a hint of irony perfectly sums up the five piece and their influences all hail from their roots which guitarist and front man, Chris Babbitt explains to their label:
"We've spent our whole lives in Las Vegas and we're the only people from Las Vegas who didn't turn into smack dealers! Babbitt and guitarist Mikey Cross were born at the same hospital and brought into this world by the same doctor. It's as though the stars were aligned and the duo were destined to be in a band.” Alan and I met sophomore year in high school when I started playing guitar. I met Mike senior year, after I had been trying to put a band together for many years and it finally happened when we were 21."
"We wanted to do something more ambitious, even though that song summed up the band and we want to give that song limelight. Then we started thinking of alternatives and we didn't want to be pigeonh
Fleetwood Mac – The Chain
The album has a much more technical side to it, Take Me Away would not sound too out of place on an Atreyu album and has an element of Dragonforce behind it, proving Taking Dawn cannot be categorised or compared to others easily. With the title track being a rather addictive number about a prostitute, ironically described by Babbitt as being "catchier than herpes." The album, produced by Jason Suecof, a name which is proving very popular around the Metal scene and who boasts working with the likes of Trivium and All That Remains. Take Me Away has a real modern feel, full of catchy hooks and lyrics making a good track to listen to but not representative of the album for listen to a track like Endlessly and you are taken to a more dramatic, power metal scene filled with slick guitar licks.
Time To Burn Review
With a hint of Airbourne, a dash of Avenged Sevenfold, all served up nicely with some tightly licked guitar solos [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Taking Dawn are the newest addition to Roadrunner Records' star studded repertoire.
