' mother explains 'death threats' family got during Jets CB's holdout
Darrelle Revis
' mother said the family endured death threats during her son's 36-day holdout from the New York Jets that ended Monday.
But Diana Gilbert told The New York Times she,
Revis jersey
and her brother, former NFL player Sean Gilbert, brushed off the criticism as they pursued what they felt was right for the Jets' Pro Bowl CB. And she did not back down on the value of the holdout.
"Did all this go a little bit too far? It probably did," Gilbert told the paper. "But, shoot, that's business. Business you don't take personal."
It was Gilbert who bought
Revis jersey
the afro wig for him to wear when he went out in public to disguise his identity as criticism reined down on him during the holdout. And she told the paper about the negative vibes the family got:
"If people want to blame someone, blame me. I don't care what the situation is. I'm going to take care of my son. The death threats, I wasn't worried about that. I can handle myself. People went overboard with it, but you expect the negativity."
Revis jersey
agreed to a four-year $46 million deal that had him in practice for the first time this season on Tuesday. The Jets expect
Revis jersey
to play in the season opener on Monday.
Gilbert, who told the Times the influence of the weekend meeting with coach Rex Ryan and Jets owner Woody Johnson may have been exaggerated, said she appreciated the sincerity of the head coach when he joined the negotiations.
"When somebody is genuine, you can see it,NCAA Jerseys," Gilbert said. "We already knew that about Rex. He believes in Darrelle. He believes in that team. We're going to the Super Bowl. I'm ready for it."
