This weeks NFL Notebook: Buffalo Bills release Trent Edwards; Michael Vick on fire;
Anquan Boldin Jersey
breaking records.
Last week I dedicated my entire column to the Trent Edwards situation in Buffalo, criticizing the Bills for not releasing him before the season. Here we are a week later and Edwards went from “Captain Checkdown” to “Captain Checked Out,” as the Bills released him on Monday.
The whole situation is still perplexing to me, as I simply do not understand the miscalculation that took place here. Head coach Chan Gailey claimed he “saw light at the end of the tunnel,” in terms of Edwards’ development just about a week before the regular season.
Apparently he didn’t realize the bulb that was Edwards’ career in Buffalo had been burned out at least a year ago.
Early indications are that the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets are at the very least considering bringing Edwards aboard. One could also speculate that Arizona is a possible destination, but no sources have confirmed the Cardinals’ interest.
……
If the NFL gave awards after just three weeks, Michael Vick would be sprinting away with the league’s MVP trophy. The 30-year-old seems to have gotten his game back in a major way and to be honest, I don’t see it fading. Vick once again brings that element that opposing defenses have to spend all week preparing for. More importantly, the former Pro Bowl quarterback’s passing game, which was oft-erratic in his “prime” has been beyond crisp – it’s literally been among the league’s best.
Say what you want about the guy, but is he playing with the mindset of a guy that wants to win, or at the very least, win people back,
MLB Jerseys
, or what? I haven’t talked to Vick in person, so it’s tough for me to gage what I take from him on a personal level, but from what I see in his press clippings and from chatting with a few of my cohorts that have spoken with him, his humble approach at a second chance seems to be pushing him down the right path. What does a guy that lost out on a $130 million contract and just about every corporate sponsor known to man have to lose?
Dare I say, Donovan McWho? The high-flying Vick-led Eagles host the Washington Redskins Sunday afternoon at 4:15 in what will certainly be hyped as the return of McNabb and the emergence of Vick.
Given the fact that Eagles’ fans launched snowballs at a guy dressed as Santa, merely in hopes of bringing a little holiday cheer, I can’t say that I envy the guy wearing No. 5 for the ‘Skins, who previously led the hometown club to five NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl.
……
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver
Anquan Boldin Jersey
became the fastest player ever to the 600-catch mark on Sunday when he hauled in a Joe Flacco pass against the Cleveland Browns, amidst a stellar day that included eight receptions for 142 yards and three touchdowns.
It’s crazy to think that
Anquan Boldin Jersey
, who played alongside one of the league’s elite in Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona for the last handful of years, reached the 600-mark sooner in his career than Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, but I guess years of 100-plus catch seasons will do it.
……
Take it for what it’s worth, but Colts’ president and competition committee member Bill Polian believes the league will adopt the proposed 18-game schedule.
"I think that the owners, and principally the commissioner, have decided that it's the way to go, and so the debate, such as it was, is over," Polian told the Associated Press. "I've heard recently, and I'm sorry that this didn't get more coverage earlier, some really, really interesting commentary on it. ... I wish some of that dialogue had taken place earlier."
.....
Fast fact: The New York Giants only mustered up 10 points on Sunday, but somehow, never punted.
