METAIRIE, La. ― The Saints have helped the psyche of New Orleans time and again during the past five years.
Thursday, 10 of the players were at it again, presenting a $100,000 check to the Sojourner Truth Academy to help start the charter school’s football program.
Led by Drew Brees, teammates Chase Daniel, Jonathan Goodwin,NBA Jerseys, Jabari Greer, Roman Harper, Malcolm Jenkins, Tracy Porter Jersey, Chris Reis, Leigh Torrence and Zach Strief all put $5,000 into the pot and the NFL matched the donation.
Sojourner Truth is a three-year old school that will participate in varsity athletics for the first time next year when the charter has its first senior class.
But what brought the school to the attention of the Saints was the relationship between Torrence and Channa Mae Cook, who helped bring the idea of the school from thought to reality. Cook knew Torrence from their time in California.
Sojourner Truth is located in Uptown New Orleans |
