Doctor in police bashing trial tells of blunt force injuries
Rotorua police agency Constable David Mear, 44, Is on trial after pleading not guilty to wounding Harvey Collier with intent to injure and assaulting him with a police torch,/p>
Collier was ground to a halt by police about 3am on August 28, 2010 after a pursuit that found speeds of 130km/h,/p>

Constable Brian Newcombe, Now positioned in Picton, Said Mear got on the bonnet of Collier's car and used his baton to smash a hole in the windshield. Mr Newcombe said Mear was trying to forestall further Collier getting away,/p>
He said he saw Mear strike Collier three times on the rear of the head with a police issue torch after he got down from the car,/p>
Mr Newcombe said after he saw Mear pick up Collier's head and push it onto the path he yelled to his fellow officer "that's exactly enough'',/p>
In his gap address for the Crown, lawyer Greg hollisterJones described the force used by Mear as "uncalled for, Gratuitous and simply illegal'',/p>
Mr hollisterJones said the case rested on the data of Mr Newcombe and supporting medical evidence about the injuries suffered by Collier,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],/p>
In a brief opening proclamation, Mear's solicitor, robert Mabey QC, Said his target "Completely and utterly'' denied the approaches and Mr Newcombe was "a total liar'',/p>
