Gate shut-out steadies ship

Runcorn Linnets 0, Squires Gate 0
Gate welcomed a clean sheet after back to back defeats and remain unbeaten on their travels in the Vodkat [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] premier division this season.
They relied on solid defence in the opening quarter, then began to make inroads into the Linnets' rearguard.
Home keeper Phil Priestley was tested by Tom Bartlett's aerial threat, while the pace of Ben Fishwick and Scott Harries ensured the visitors were in the ascendancy by the end of the first half.
They continued to have the edge but substitute Chris Bennett was denied by a fine save, then Dave Woodruff was unable to make a clean contact when Priestley failed to deal with a cross.
At the other end, Neal Beesley preserved his clean sheet with a point-blank save.
Gate were denied a late penalty, when [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cut in from the left and went down as he homed in on goal, but Russ McKenna's side have regained some form to take into tomorrow's Lancashire Challenge Trophy opener at home to Rossendale (7.45pm).
