Fast forward to today, Monday October 18th, 2010. Ndamukon Suh has 4.5 sacks, leading NFL DTs. He's on pace for 12. 12 sacks as a rookie is great one would say. But how great? Jevon Kearse has the NFL Rookie record at 14.5 Then Dwight Freeney at 13. So 12 isn't so bad. But those were DEs. Suh is a DT. So after much researching (and possibly still incomplete) I have located the current record for DTs, and that is 11, by Keith Millard. Other mentionables are Kevin Williams at 10.5 (even though he played DE as well) and Corey Simon, with 9.5. And yet Suh is on pace for 12. Are we watching a record setting season before our eyes, and not noticing it because he plays on the Lions? Possibly.
The date is April 22nd 2010. The Rams finally made their pick Sam Bradford, whom many had already assumed it would be. The Lions are on the clock. Many draftniks want them to pick the stud DT from Nebraska, Ndamukong Suh. Others want them to draft [link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the former Sooner. When they finally selected Ndamukong Suh, draft watchers everywhere cheered. Some secretly were disappointed. Not anymore.
Now none of this means [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] anything. It's only week 6 for crying out loud. But maybe, just maybe Suhperman is here to stay. We just may be witnessing history unfold before our eyes. And 30 years down the road, people will still be remarking about how amazing that kid from Nebraska was. And they still won't be able to say his name.
Suhperman? Evaluating The #2 Draft Pick For The Detroit Lions
At the beginning of the season Suh of course had his doubters. A DT doesn't produce in his first season at the NFL level. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] will outperform him. He's going to a team that will ruin him. Believe me, Suh has heard it all. And he listened. Now he goes out there every Sunday and he's proving people wrong. Can't produce at the NFL level? 4.5 sacks and 21 total tackles through 6 games say your wrong. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] will out produce him? [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is not only being outproduced by Suh, but he's also being outproduced by another first round DT, Tyson Alualu. The Lions will ruin him? The Lions have been much more competitive than in recent seasons, and all of their losses have come from expected to be good (Green Bay, Minnesota, New York Football [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Giants, Philadelphia) or surprisingly good (Chicago) teams. The one game they were expected be close in? They win by their largest margin since 1995. So Suh isn't going down with him, he's bringing them up.
