Losing Clark stung this franchise more than any other. He moves the chains like Welker does here.
Hey, that's not exactly Jerry Rice, John Taylor and Brent Jones with [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it represents a giant leap compared to all but 2007 and 2009 for Brady.
Those number mirror Brady's: 64.5 percent for 2,176 yards with 17 TDs and five picks.
The Pats brought back linebacker Pierre Woods after cutting Shawn Crable. This move is most likely necessitated by the loss of Stephen Gostkowski, whose long kicks and touchbacks put less stress on the coverage team, where Woods does his best work. ...
Only Reggie Wayne has been a constant, and he's drawn unusually heavy attention.
To his credit, Manning has continued his all-world play. Through Indy's 6-3 start, Manning has completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 2,663 yards with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
"We had big games and rivalry games in Seattle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Branch. "Just nothing quite like this." [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Each resides on the short list of game-changing, third-down performers.
"Jacob (Tamme) has really been working hard. He's been learning on the run. Even though he's been here for three years now, he really hasn't played a whole lot in games, so he and I are getting good game experience together. He's really done a good job, made some huge plays, a couple of huge touchdowns for us. And we're throwing a lot at him as well. We're asking a lot of him. He's really responded well."
"We're still dealing with it. It's a week-to-week transition," admitted Manning. "Out of respect for Dallas, I'm not sure if you can replace Dallas Clark. I think you just adjust. I think Dallas is that good of a player and deserves that much respect. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
For first, Manning envies Brady's weapons
The Colts' identity will start and end under center as long as Manning is barking out the calls.
Unlike just about every meeting, the two will play a game of quarterback role reversal.
Brady rests, Woods returns
The media contingent here yesterday was as big as it has been all season. Receiver Deion Branch is excited about being back on the NFL's radar.
"Obviously we've adapted. I think that's the thing we talk about and follow through on," said Colts coach Jim Caldwell. "We've had some pretty key losses, but we don't use any of that as an excuse. You just have to depend on guys who are next in line to be able to step up and perform, and we've been able to get that for the most part."
"It definitely has been a different type of season because of the abnormal amount of injuries we've had and different guys playing," said Manning. "Every week presents a new challenge. We're sort of trying to form the identity for our team that week depending on who is playing."
For the first time, Manning can understand all those games that Brady was forced to throw to the likes of Donald Hayes, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney and J.J. Stokes.
FOXBORO — Do you think at some point this year when things were bleak, Peyton Manning reached out to Marvin Harrison for one more dance?
New England is being cautious with Tom Brady's tender foot. He took practice off to treat and rest it. ... [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Manning and Brady hook up again Sunday as the Colts take on the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in the national doubleheader game (4:15 p.m.). [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Like nearly every other meeting between these two greats, the result may show us who has the inside track to the Super Bowl.
He is, was and seemingly always will be the system in Indy.

Hey, if Tom Brady could get his binky, Deion Branch, back from Seattle, why couldn't Manning pull the future Hall of Famer, now 38 and two seasons removed from the game, out of retirement?
Meanwhile, Manning has lost Dallas Clark and Anthony Gonzalez for the season and has seen Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie bounce in and out of the lineup with injuries.
Even without Randy Moss, Brady has Branch, Wes Welker and a pair of promising rookie tight ends in Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski.
